The idea for Kariki Studio was born in Kenya, a place I spent a large part of my childhood. My love for Africa has never left me and regular visits to see friends and family are an important part of my life whilst the environment, its people and culture continue to influence me. The name Kariki is a mix of two Swahili words Karibu and Rafiki - Welcome and Friend!
My business concept based around baby and kids organic cotton and fair trade clothing, allowed me to explore ways in which I could utilise the skills and resources within Africa to create my products. My business plan focused on a model that benefited the economy in Sub Saharan African countries that was not aid based but rather trade focused.
After much research, I formed a partnership with Mantis World who is an English company working with Sunflag factory in Arusha, Tanzania, a fairtrade factory that provides sustainable jobs.
The fabric for all garments is grown in Tanzania and is 100% organic cotton, meaning it is much safer for babies’ skin containing no toxins and is safer for the environment and farmers too.
My prints are influenced by my childhood adventures and imaginaton which always comes alive in Africa.
Thank you for supporting Kariki Studio!
